Rise Up

Introduction Presentation

After presenting to the class and Tutors we were strongly encouraged to forget about the community project and go straight to TFL with our ideas. Everyone loved the graphics of the hands and could see how it linked to anti racism, Olympics and TFL.

Brief Proposal
We are a team of graphic designers known as Rise Up and we plan to campaign against racism on London’s public transport. We want support from an anti racist charity so this can be a successful campaign. We want to raise awareness of racism on public transport.
Rise Up believes we need to campaign against racism before the 2012 Olympic Games and beyond. 800,000 spectators many travelling from different countries, are expected to use public transport to travel to the Games, as well as commuters.
Footage was uploaded on YouTube which is an online video sharing website, where videos can be uploaded in seconds and viewed by millions in minutes, global. The footage was uploaded Sunday 27th November 2011 and was viewed more than 124,000 times by Monday 28th November 2011. The astonishing footage shows a woman with a child on her lap shouting abuse at passengers. The incident happened on the Croydon to Wimbledon tramlink, public transport and the video was named my Tram experience, this is an experience we don’t want Olympic spectators to encounter on their visit.
Surprising this isn’t the only racist video; the most recent racist footage emerged on YouTube on January 24th 2012 and was believed to be filmed on January 23rd 2012. The incident also took place on public Transport. Through research Rise Up has discovered racist attacks verbally, physically and both seem to occur in and around public transport.
800,000 spectators many travelling from different countries, are expected to use public transport to travel to the Games, as well as commuters.
Rise Up wants commuters and visitors to tap out of racism on public transport. We intend to create posters which will be located at bus shelters, bus stops, and confectionary shops where you can top up oyster cards. We also intent to create unique oyster card holders, which will be handed out where the posters our located for 2 days only and then will be available from local confectionary shops.
We plan to get funding to help with the costs of our posters, space for our posters to be advertised and bus pass holders.

Networking
We have created a hotmail to send any enquiries, emails, attachments and files including proposals to company's and people we need to contact. This we we as a group can all log on and check and keep the information and access it for our research. We have also created a twitter and a Facebook  with the hotmail we have created.

TFL

We know what we wanted to do but just needed  to get the help and support from TFL. We followed Borris Johnson on our twitter page, we also added TFL. We emailed our proposals to head offices of TFL , But getting a response from anyone was proving impossible. our lectures encouraged us not to give up and keep nagging at them.

Graphics

We countiued to work on graphics, but was told that there wasn't any need to as our concept and graphics was already there.

Logo design Ideas
We have decided to call ourselves Rise Up . . . RISE UP TO RACISM.
